About

In 1976 a group of concerned citizens got together to fight for the health of the lake.  The current lake association was first formed in 1984.  That was also the first year for commercial weed treatments to battle the growing population of invasive weeds. The lake has certainly been around a lot longer than that. Just ask Carolyn Schwantes who grew up right here back when Chowens Corners and Ty Abel Corner was just that.  It did not take us long to almost destroy this vibrant self contained watershed.

The Lake needs our help to keep it healthy and vibrant in order to support all the wildlife, birds, animals and fish which depend it the diversity of the ecosystem.

See the membership page for information about how to become a member in the association.  Without volunteers working to maintain the lake,  without your generous financial support we would not have this precious ecosystem.

The mission of the Association is as follows:

A. Keep Shaver's Lake a Lake
B. Slow or stop all silt-in processes
C. Return (restore) shoreline and bottom similar to 1950's, advancing our own techniques if necessary
D. Filter (treat) water coming in with most effective method
E. Control and remove invasive weeds
